Counting leaves instead of spoons
The 1.05 oz soursop bag prints its method in leaves: four to five to a cup of water, simmered 15 to 20 minutes. The product description of avocado leaf counts two or three leaves for about five minutes. A whole leaf is easy to count and keeps its oils inside until you break it.
Look at the leaf before you use it. It should be dry enough to snap and keep its green or olive color. A leaf gone brown and brittle has lost most of its scent. Hierba santa is the largest leaf here, wide enough to wrap a tamal, and it is sold by the ounce with about 25 leaves to the bag.
