The plant that opens in water
Rosa de Jericó, Selaginella lepidophylla, is a whole dried plant, also called doradilla and resurrection plant. Set it in a dish of water and within hours it unfolds and turns green. Let it dry out and it curls back into a tight ball. It is not for tea.
In many Mexican homes the rose of Jericho is kept in a dish of water in a corner of a room, with the water topped up or changed as it goes. By custom it is often first set out on a Tuesday or a Friday. You can buy one jumbo plant, about 5 inches across, a pack of three, or a pack of six big ones to share.
In the YERBERO collection, Rosa de Jericó is filed under R in the herbolario A–Z, next to Sal de Colima.
