Bark of a Mexican tree
Cuachalalate is dried bark, wildcrafted in Mexico, 8 oz to the bag. The tree is Amphipterygium adstringens, though the bag prints its older name, Juliania adstringens. It grows in Mexico and Central America, and the bag describes the cup as robust and woody.
The bag also suggests brewing the bark together with other herbs: dandelion root, fennel, fenugreek seed, gentian root, yellow dock root or milk thistle. Milk thistle sits on our tea shelf if you want to try that pairing. No method of its own is printed, so the ratio of bark to water is yours to set. At 8 oz, the bag holds enough bark to try more than one of those pairings.
In the YERBERO herbolario, Cuachalalate is filed under C in the herbolario A–Z, next to Gordolobo molido.
